Stata is a general-purpose statistical software package created in 1985 by StataCorp. It is used by many businesses and academic institutions around the world. Most of its users work in research, especially in the fields of economics, sociology, political science, biomedicine and epidemiology. Stata is available on some library computers.
Stata is a powerful statistical package with smart data-management facilities, a wide array of up-to-date statistical techniques, and an excellent system for producing publication-quality graphs. Stata is fast and easy to use. In this tutorial we start with a quick introduction and overview and then discuss data management, statistics, graphs, and programming. The tutorial has been updated for version 10, but most of the discussion applies to versions 8 and 9 as well
SAS (pronounced "sass", originally Statistical Analysis System) is an integrated system of software products provided by SAS Institute Inc. that enables programmers to perform retrieval, management, and mining; report writing and graphics statistical analysis, among other functions. It is not available on library computers. See your campus academic computing to see if they provide the software.
