Creating an ArcGIS account at Claremont

To create an ArcGIS Online account:

  1. Go to the ArcGIS Online portal for Claremont at: https://claremont.maps.arcgis.com/home/index.html. Once on the page, click the Sign In button at the top right of the page.
  2. You will then be prompted with the login box. To log in for the first time click the blue SSO box at the top of the sign in window.

  3. At this point you will be automatically redirected from arcgis.com to the Claremont Colleges Single Sign-on Page. Enter your college credentials and then click the Sign In button.
  4. You should now be redirected back to the ArcGIS Online Portal and be successfully logged in to your new Claremont Colleges ArcGIS Online account. Your unique account name will be automatically created and will appear in the top-right corner when you are logged in.

Signing in after the first time.

  1. You can sign in following these procedures every time (you won't be creating new accounts each time, assuming you use the same credentials). If you are affiliated with several colleges and have several sets of SSO credentials, it is possible to create several accounts.
  2. If you have an existing ArcGIS account that was created for you (pre-2020) you can continue to log in with these credentials if you wish. Use the ArcGIS Login pane at the bottom of the sign in window.

Managing your data and projects

Groups are a way to share content with your collaborators within the ArcGIS platform. This could include maps, data, images, and StoryMaps. Any user can create a group and invite users to join the group.
If you want to create content that can be edited by more than one person, you will need a "Shared Update" group. These can only be created by a site administrator. Please email us if you would like to set up a Shared Update group for your project.

ArcGIS Assistant (current 2021 version is a beta release) is a useful tool for moving your content between accounts and modifying public URLs for features you may have created. ArcGIS Assistant is a useful tool to keep in mind if you know you will need to be moving your content once you leave Claremont.
