Finding Books

Many books useful to Museum Studies will be in the following call number areas:

  • AM - books about museums in general and about museum and curatorial philosophy (HON 3)
  • N-NX & TR - books about art, including art museum collections, exhibition catalogues, and gallery guides. (N-NX: MUDD 1; TR: HON 1)

Use the Library Search to find books that we own or that can be requested from another library:

SEARCH HINTS: About 1/2 of all the art books in Honnold/Mudd are oversized and are on a different set of shelves--look for the word FOLIO to find them. To borrow books we don't own or that are checked out, use the "Get This Item" button to have the book delivered from another library.

Tips for Finding Books on Collections and Exhibitions

  • Spell out the name of the museum (use los angeles county museum of art, not LACMA)
  • Search for the name of your museum as a Subject, rather than as a keyword
  • Add the keywords (exhibitions OR catalogs) including the parentheses  to your keyword search
