E-books: EBL

This is your guide to electronic formats, digital rights, and downloading library e-books for use on the go.

Accessing and borrowing EBL e-books

EBL - Ebook Library's e-books are available simultaneously to multiple users. They can be read directly online or downloaded for up to 14 days at a time and read offline on a laptop or ebook reading device. The download files are in DRM-protected PDF or EPUB format, or both.

After finding the book in Search The Claremont Colleges and beyond, A window will open and you will be prompted to select your institution and login with your campus credentials. These are the same username and password you use to login to Sakai, Canvas, etc. If you need help, please call the Services Desk at 909-621-8150, or on-campus extension x18150.

Select the option that is most convenient to you - read online or download.

Due to copyright restrictions, there is a limitation on how much of the book you are allowed to copy or print. The amount could vary for the different publishers, but typically it is up to 20% of the full text.

In order to copy or print, select "Read Online" and access the Copy/Print buttons on top of the page.

You could also download the whole book in an Adobe DRM-protected PDF or EPUB document (subject to availability for the particular title) for a period of up to 14 days.

Necessary software - Adobe Digital Editions. In order to download the e-book to a computer it is necessary to create an Adobe ID and authorize the computer with it.

In order to transfer a downloaded EBL e-book to a portable reading device, you need to connect the device to the computer by an USB cable and authorize it with the same Adobe ID as the computer.

Then drag and drop the book from your ADE library into your e-reader.

At the end of the lending period, the e-book will still be physycally on your computer or postable reading device, but the file will be become "locked" by the DRM component and you'd have to delete it. If you still need the book, follow the same steps and borrow the book again. The books can be accessed or downloaded multiple times.
