Library Quick Start Guide for Students

Welcome to the Claremont Colleges Library! Use this guide to get oriented and learn the basics of what the library has to offer.

Finding Dissertations & Conference Proceedings

Sometimes you may want items other than books or journal articles, such as dissertations or conference proceedings. How can you find and get those items?

Dissertations
Dissertations written at The Claremont Colleges will probably be available from the Library, either in the general collection or in Special Collections. Search Library Search by author or title of the dissertation to find where it is located. Many dissertations written since 1996, including those written at The Claremont Colleges, are available in full-text online through the Dissertations & Theses database. If you want to use a dissertation that's not available either in the library or in full-text online, you can request it through Resource Sharing.

Visit the Libraries' Help page for more information on finding dissertions.

Conference Proceedings
Conference proceedings may be available in the library (use Library Search). Unless you know the exact title of the conference proceedings, generally the best way to search is using the organization name as author and proceedings as a keyword.

Google and Google Scholar are also good tools for finding conference papers and proceedings. Search by conference name, conference organization, paper title, or presenter's name.
