Your Assignment

Welcome! This guide is designed specifically to support you in doing background research for your Too Much Information writing assignments. Your overall assignment prompts explain Major Papers:
(1) A rhetorical analysis (4-5pp) in response to one of the critical texts;
(2) A literary analysis (4-5pp) in response to Orwell’s 1984 through the lens of a critical
text; and
(3) An argumentative research paper (10-12pp) that responds to a key issue raised in
one of the course’s critical texts.

Syllabus

This library session is to introduce you to library resources in general, as well as more specifically for your writing.

Use the menu to the left to find a list of recommended places to start your research and tips and tricks to access and choose your sources. 

Examples of sources you might use include:

Background sources for information on theories;

Books and scholarly articles for secondary sources;

Primary sources (first-hand accounts, data, etc.) for additional information.

Defining Your Information Need

Thinking through your search before you begin will help you be more effective overall. Think about the questions below to help yourself devise the most useful study strategy to you. 

Generating Keywords

An important part of researching your topic is generating important concepts to look for information on, or keywords. If you need help brainstorming different keywords to find sources on your topic, or are a visual learner, this tool might help with mapping out your ideas. 

Place your main idea in the center box, then break it down into subsequent ideas or sections. Brainstorm different words or terms you could research in order to find information on those topics!
