A guide for library staff when creating new libguides

Create a link to Sakai

To add a link in LibGuides to a document in Sakai there are two options to find the unique Sakai URL:

  1. Login to Sakai.
  2. Find the document to which you want to link.
  3. Right click the hyperlinked title and copy the shortcut.

OR

  1. Login to Sakai.
  2. Find the document to which you want to link.
  3. In the drop-down box next to the title, click "Edit Details."
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see the "Web address (URL)."
  5. Copy the URL.

Once you have the Sakai URL, you can add the link to a LibGuide using either link type.

Create a link to Google

To add a link to a Google Doc in LibGuides, there are two options to find the unique Google URL:

  1. In Google Drive, find the document to which you want to link.
  2. Right Click the hyperlinked document title, a list of options will appear.
  3. Scroll to "Share," and "Share."
  4. The URL appears in a pop-up box.

OR

  1. In Google Drive, find the document to which you want to link.
  2. Check the box to the left of the document you want to share.
  3. In the upper row of icons, choose the Person with a + sign.
  4. The URL will appear in a pop-up box exactly as above.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Only people authorized to view the document will be able to do so if you link to it. So make sure your permissions are correct. They are accessed the same way as you find the document URL.

 

Once you have the Google URL, you can add the link to a LibGuide using either link type.
